Viewing the property from the street, the house does not show all the work that was put into the landscaping. When you walk into the back and see the lovely touches, it seems like a garden of Eden. The swimming pool is landscaped all around and has a bar with seating. A wrought iron fence borders the area. There are lots of trees and statuary on the acre or so plot, according to Wright.
There is a full vegetable garden, a green house with rare cacti, also a red maple, azaleas and camellias for color. Hirsch designed the landscape herself. Seasonal poinsettias are used in the front beds for a festive accent.

A large live oak tree in the front yard was registered long ago by a previous owner and adds a pleasant vista when viewed from the front porch, according to Marilyn Wright, garden club chairman.

Homes are selected not just for the colorful plantings and well maintained yards, but by homeowners who do their own work rather than rely on professional landscapers, Wright said.

Barbara and Francis Martino, 14477 Wadesboro Road, received May Garden of the Month honors from the Gardenettes. Their grounds are alive with blooming roses, amaryllis, phlox and many other eye-catching blossoms.
Marilyn Wright, garden of the month chairman, remarked on the many objects of yard art that made the Martino's yard so appealing. There is a Disney children's garden, many bird baths and feeders for wildlife and seating areas where one can stop to smell the many roses that the Martinos propagate from cuttings.
Gardenettes are members of District VI Louisiana Garden Club Federation Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs Inc., and National Garden Clubs Inc.
One of the many things that qualify a yard for this award is the fact that it is maintained by the owners rather than a professional landscaper. The Martinos can attest to the fact that they spend many long hours working in and enjoying their lovely property, according to Wright.
